Welcome to the 2026 Summer Book Club!
Starting June 28th, we’ll share a new story each week for six weeks. Each week we will reveal a different beautifully illustrated, thoughtfully chosen picture book and together, we’ll read, reflect, and create a gentle rhythm to your summer learning and play.
Each week’s study follows a simple three-day Waldorf-inspired structure:
- Day One: Read and discuss the story using our open-ended questions to guide reflection and connection
- Day Two: Retell the story together and dive deeper with our writing or drawing prompts
- Day Three: Wrap up the week with a meaningful hands-on craft inspired by the story’s themes
You'll find everything you need, including discussion prompts, creative activities, and tutorials, posted weekly on the Moon Child Blog, with a Sunday email to remind you what's coming that week. Want to make sure you never miss a week? Sign up on our Summer Book Club landing page to receive our weekly emails — plus find all the details for this summer and summers past. Now, let's unveil the 2026 Summer Book Club selection. We can't wait to share these magical stories with you!
Week 1: Princess in the Forest by Sibyl Von Olfers
Hidden deep in the woods, a young princess begins each day surrounded by the quiet magic of the forest. Dew children help her dress, moss children prepare her breakfast, and star children light her path home at night. Filled with gentle rhythms, woodland friends, and dreamy illustrations, this timeless tale invites readers into a world where nature and imagination are woven together in every moment.
Week 2: Hum & Swish by Matt Myers
On a breezy day at the beach, a young girl gathers shells, sticks, and sand to create something entirely her own. Curious strangers keep asking what she’s making, but it’s only when a nearby artist quietly gives her space to work that her creativity begins to flow. Thoughtful and beautifully observed, this story celebrates the freedom to imagine, create, and connect in unexpected ways.
Week 3: Daisy Rewilds by Margaret McNamara
Daisy has always felt at home in nature, but one spring she begins to grow truly wild. Ferns sprout behind her ears, flowers curl around her ankles, and soon she blossoms into a sprawling garden all her own. Overflowing with humor, heart, and a love for the natural world, this imaginative story gently explores care for the earth and the wonder of growing alongside it.
Week 4: The Boy and the Elephant by Freya Blackwood
A lonely little boy finds comfort beneath a tree shaped like an elephant in the wooded lot beside his home. As the seasons pass, the tree becomes his quiet companion — until the forest is marked for removal. Tender and deeply moving, this story explores friendship, belonging, and the enduring magic of the natural world through Freya Blackwood’s luminous illustrations.
Week 5: The World to Come by Robert MacFarlane and Johnny Flynn
In this lyrical picture book, a father and son journey together through changing landscapes filled with rivers, forests, weather, and song. With rhythmic language and richly atmospheric artwork, the story offers a hopeful vision of the future rooted in wonder, connection, and care for the earth. A beautiful read-aloud that lingers long after the final page.
Week 6: The Land of Long Ago by Elsa Beskow
When a brother and sister climb onto a dragon-shaped log in their yard, they’re whisked away to an enchanted land of castles, knights, and hidden magic. Along the way they help rescue a princess, meet a mischievous gnome, and discover what it means to find their way home. Filled with adventure and classic fairy-tale charm, this beloved story captures the timeless spirit of childhood imagination.
